Bakuchiol is derived from the Ayurvedic Babchi plant.  Pure bakuchiol is obtained through a monomolecular extraction of babchi seeds, where only one molecule is extracted, creating bakuchiol with over 99% purity. This pure form is used in clinical studies to demonstrate its skin benefits.

Bakuchiol is considered a natural alternative to a retinoid, as it activates similar pathways in the skin. Bakuchiol is a powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial.

Like retinol, it stimulates collagen. Unlike retinol, it does not act like a chemical exfoliant and doesn’t cause photosensitivity.
